photo shelf 01

For both Chris and I to be photographers, we have a sorry amount of our photography displayed in our home. We do have several paintings up, but our photos tend to get packed away in a closet somewhere for long stretches of time. I wanted an affordable (aka. super cheap) way to display some of our prints, so I created this shelf display by our dining table. Previously, we’d had the shelves in another room, but it was time for a change, so I used them for this display. I went to the Dollar Store and found an assortment of photo frames in varying degrees of horrendous colour and finishes, and also bought a can of matte black spray paint. I was also surprised to find a pack of white mattes while I was there, and used them where I could. Chris painted the frames for me, then I mounted the photos into the mattes and frames.

The result is a very clean and modern display that I am completely happy with. It’s always nice to see our own photos in our home, and they make a great conversation piece when people want to know the stories behind the images.
